Dr. Wilson Bradshaw (FGCU), 2011-12 FACU President, and Dr. Katherine Johnson (PHCC), 2011-2012 FACU Program Chair, cordially invite you to attend the Florida Association of Colleges and Universities (FACU) 78th Annual Conference.

 

The Conference is scheduled to begin with registration starting at 8:00 AM on Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at the Sawgrass Marriott, 1000 PGA Tour Boulevard, Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida 32082 - Phone: (800) 577-6009. The room rate is $129. The hotel is now accepting reservations. A draft program schedule will be provided in the very near future.

 

This annual FACU conference is designed to bring together college and university presidents from the Florida College System (FCS), Independent Colleges and Universities of Florida (ICUF), and the State University System (SUS) to network, share best practices, and discuss common statewide issues in higher education.

 

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS

The conference kicks off at NOON with a luncheon sponsored by Florida Campus Compact and features Dr. Belle Wheelan, CEO of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) who has agreed to be our keynote speaker. She will discuss accreditation issues as they relate to federal government involvement, ensuring accountability in learning outcomes, technology advances, and fiscal responsibilities.

 Mireille Grangenois, publisher of The Chronicle of Higher Education and The Chronicle of Philanthropy, will moderate a panel with Chronicle staff writers and editors, including Sara Lipka, Senior Editor, Students; Holly Hall, Features Editor of The Chronicle of Philanthropy; and Jeffrey Young, Senior Editor, Technology, at The Chronicle of Higher Education. Based in Washington, D.C., The Chronicle of Higher Education has more than 70 writers, editors, and international correspondents, and is the leading source of news and information on higher education in America.  The Chronicle of Philanthropy, with more than thirty reporters and editors, is the leading source of news and information on charitable organizations and foundations in the U.S.

 Chancellor Frank Brogan of the SUS, Chancellor Randy Hanna of the FCS, and Dr. Ed Moore of ICUF who will provide updates from the three higher education sectors in Florida. 

 Following the afternoon sessions we will gather for the dinner reception and the annual FACU Awards dinner sponsored by Florida Trend and VALIC. The Honorable Governor Rick Scott will deliver the opening remarks at the reception prior to the dinner program. At this dinner we will also be presenting the annual FACU Distinguished Service Award along with honoring our retiring presidents.

Florida Association of Colleges and Universities is the oldest education association in the state of Florida, founded in 1934.
